A History of Bold Innovation in Payment Solutions

Since the foundations of the Internet in the 1990s our products and services have been there providing innovative solutions to both the opportunities and problems it created.

In 1996 our NETBANX® gateway was founded as the UK’s first Payment Service Provider (PSP). It solved the problem of allowing any merchant to accept payment on their website and so fuelled the growth of Internet card-not-present (CNP) payments in Europe.

In 1999 our consumer business was launched with the introduction of the NETELLER® e-wallet service. This secure online payment method gave consumers from anywhere in the world the peace of mind to pay for goods and services online. And importantly 100% indemnification meant that merchants would always get paid.

In 2001 we made 3 day bank transfers instant and indemnified with our ground breaking instaCASH™ product line. This allowed merchants to deliver goods and services to their customers straight away without waiting for the funds to clear.

And in 2003 with the NETELLER Card we launched the first global pre-paid card program in the industry, allowing consumers spend securely at millions of locations worldwide.

In 2006 we opened up the Asia market for western merchants with the launch of our 1-PAY™ online payment services.

From the beginning we saw an early adoption of our products and services in the e-gaming sector, where speed, trust and security were of paramount importance. Today the majority of our merchants are from outside of the e-gaming market, including such diverse industries as publishing, retail, insurance, financial services, manufacturing, energy, government, education, media and entertainment.
